Tower Development

The way that the tower has been developed is in accordance with the concept of the rest of the tower, as well with Nanotechnology in mind.

The tower started off as a simple, rectangular prism. 30 stories high.



 Firstly the shape of the tower was altered. The top of the tower was brought in and the bottom was taken out, to make the a slope up the side of the tower. The back sides of of the tower were left straight, to accentuate the slope of the tower to make it more similar to the original design concept. The edge of the tower was lifted, to allow sunlight to pass under it, and to highlight the slope. It also creates several gardens under the side of the tower. The flick also highlights the entry off the main public space, which highlights the intention of the tower to include the public and to make the lobby of the tower seem more like a public space.



Next the facade of the tower was altered to a diagrid, which not only helps to support what would be a glass façade, but also to some degree mimics the structure of a Carbon Nanotube, one of the more promising technologies that Nanotechnology has to offer architecture. 



Finally the diagrid was separated from the façade and extruded, revealing the structure behind it. 



The floor plates were then added in, as well as the lobby. 



The tower was the places on the block on top of the southern corner of the myer center, as can be seen in the plan below.




The façade of the tower will be glass with a diagrid structure. The glass of the façade will use electrochromic glass, to reduce heat loads and energy use of the building. Electrochromic glass is a product that uses a burst of current to change the opacity of a window, reducing the amounts of light and heat getting in. The electrochromic glass will be powered through the use of solar panels on the roof of the building  as well as the roof of the myer centre.
