Ramps

The space will use ramps to get people around. The main circulation space will use ramps that are 1 : 14 to circle people around the space, interacting them with the shops that line the space. These ramps are in line with australian standards on wheelchair ramps. The rest of the spaces will use ramps that are slightly steeper at 12 degrees. These ramps will replace what would otherwise be stairs, as I feel that gradual ramps do not discourage exploration in the way that a wall of stairs would. Because these ramps do not allow for disabled access, they are lined with travelators. Each ramp only has one travelator. Throughout the day these will change the direction that they are running in accordance with peak hour traffic. This is done to help the flow of peak traffic and to discourage people from moving against the flow of this. The location of these ramps can be seen below, with green representing the flatter ramps and red representing the steeper.

The low angle of the ramps surrounding the main open space alos means that retail spaces can be included around them with greater ease. If the groung were ar a high angle the entrances to stores would be diminished due to the cut and fill needed to make the spaces useable.
