The shopping spaces that line the main space are important in activating the space. When they are open the space is alive and full of life. When they are closed the space feels shut. The shops will be much the same as the shops at the south western end of the Queen Street mall, which can be seen below (although not very well).
The front of the shops will be completly open. The 4th wall will be removed and opened up onto the space. This will encourage interaction between the spaces and the pubic realm. When the shops are closed the front entrances will use glass barricades to attempt to continue this effect they create while open.
